Work closely with account managers and assigned customers in developing advanced system designs for thermal management in data centers. Translate customer needs into optimized, scalable cooling solutions—blending technical engineering leadership with commercial acumen and customer-facing engagement.

Where is the work:
This position has been designated as remote.
What you will do:
Utilize Trane expertise in equipment and controls design—applying it to data center-specific thermal challenges, including single-phase, two-phase, and immersion cooling scenarios.
Supporting the data center account managers and their assigned customers in all aspects including direct communication to provide a great customer experience.
Collaborate closely with account managers and sales teams to review customer requirements, RFPs, and design documents; propose integrated thermal solutions that address performance, scalability, and reliability.
Participate in critical to close calls, strategy development and customer meetings
Attend design days, factory witness tests, and customer presentations as needed.
Act as leader for the following activities, leveraging peers, product engineers and estimators as needed:
Develop system design documentation, including equipment selections, piping/layout schematics, specifications, sequence of operations, points lists, and BOMs tailored for data center environments.
Prepare cost estimates, ROI models, and quotations; negotiate with vendors to ensure competitive pricing.
Create technical deliverables—budgets, proposals, MOPs, scope inclusions/exclusions, and documentation packages. Respond to customer questions during system design.
Develop equipment submittals for approval, including any revisions and record submittals.
Participate in job meetings with Sales Leaders, Account Managers, and Estimators to review scope, strategy, etc.
Review and update equipment for order entry; verify equipment pricing, prepare turnover package, and reconcile project costs.
Attend internal and external turnover and coordination meetings, supporting customer job meetings, reviews, and coordination sessions.
Coordinate internal/external resources to help resolve quality, customer, and/or project challenges.
Track industry trends in data center cooling technology, participate in voice-of-customer initiatives, and track utility and other incentive/rebate programs to inform product and solution innovation and enhancements.
What you will bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Thermal Engineering (or equivalent technical experience); 3+ years of experience in data center thermal systems, cooling design, or application engineering.
Windows / Microsoft Office product knowledge.
Strong communication, presentation, and customer-facing skills; ability to develop ROI cases and effectively support account managers.
Willingness to travel (e.g., 15–30%) to support customer engagements, factory visits, and design days.
Prior experience with data center environments.
Familiarity with CFD/thermal simulation tools, cost modeling software, and data center standards (ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, OCP).
Active involvement in industry forums or continuous improvement initiatives.
Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to: DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Carless Driving, or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
Compensation:
Base Pay Range: $121,100 - $152,500
Total compensation for this role will include an incentive plan.
