Job Summary:

Thermo King is hiring a Applied Mechanics Intern in Minneapolis, MN. In this role, you will work with the Applied Mechanics Engineering team to apply computational and test methods to develop reliable Transport Refrigeration product designs, and to address reliability with existing products in the areas of acoustics, vibrations, and fatigue.  Potential focus areas include applied mechanics model & test development.  This role works closely with various product and technology development teams, and with global engineering support center personnel around the globe.

Where is the work:

  • On-Site (5 days)

  • From Monday to Thursday, work onsite with your colleagues. On Fridays, choose your work location, balancing what your work requires

  • Prioritize engaging with customers. When not directly interacting with customers; collaborate with colleagues in your office

     

     


    What you will do:   

  • Support the advancement and growth of the Applied Mechanics Engineering Team in the areas of modeling, simulation, instrumentation, and lab testing. The scope encompasses technology in both computational and test, developing tools and methodologies.

  • Familiar with computational models and test for structural reliability.

  • Familiar with machine learning & artificial intelligence.

  • Plan and supervise tests to validate simulation models, including but not limited to strain gage, tensile, shaker vibration, and structural dynamic tests as well as field tests.


What you will bring: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and in pursuit of advanced degree in engineering is required.

  • Mechanical, Aerospace, or Acoustics disciplines are a plus.

  • Formal coursework in structural dynamics/mechanics, advanced mechanics of materials, digital signal processing is required.

  • Experience in performing applied mechanics simulation and test is required.

  • Experience with structural data acquisition systems, both hardware and software, as well as mechanical strain measurement is required. Prior experience in Siemens Test.Lab is preferred.

  • Experience in accelerated life test, for both metals and non-metals is required.

  • Strong prior experience in Matlab and Excel is required.

  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal, communication, and project management skills are required.

 

Compensation:   

Base Pay Range: $22.50/hr - $25.50/hr

Total compensation for this role will include a commission/incentive plan. Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, and geographic location where the work is performed.
