Job Summary:
A skilled mechanic/mechanical assembler to assemble, test, troubleshoot, and repair refrigerant compressors for commercial HVAC systems, and their sub-assemblies.
A mechanical assembler needs to possess manual dexterity and an eye for detail. They must also have knowledge of mechanics, proper use and care of both precision measurement tools and precision assembly tools as well as respect for safety precautions and all safety rules.
A qualified Assembler II must have some prior experience in mechanical assembly, and should have experience in an industrial production environment performing mechanical assembly, quality checks, testing, and trouble-shooting. Direct experience with refrigerant compressor assembly, or similar equipment of equivalent complexity is an advantage in this role.
The goal is to ensure effective production operations that are safe, efficient, produce consistently high quality products and optimize procedures.
This role has been designated by the Company as Safety Sensitive.
Responsibilities Include:
Knowing and following all applicable environmental, health, and safety (EHS) rules in the performance of the job.
Participating and fully supporting safety programs (ex. BBS).
Being punctual and reliable by observing all work rules.
Reading mechanical assembly drawings, production documents (ex.: Operational Method Sheets), work instructions, and quality documentation (ex.: assembly Travelers) to understand specifications and requirements of output.
Learning and following the proper sequence of events/actions (SOE’s) for the completion of each assigned job.
Taking measurements and completing production/quality documentation to record key measurements & operations during assembly and testing.
Correctly using and maintaining tools/equipment necessary for assembly & test operations.
Maintaining clean, safe, and organized work areas.
Checking output to ensure consistency with specifications and identifying defects.
Keeping records of approved and defective units or final products.
Performing routine maintenance to production equipment and making minor adjustments/repairs to equipment as needed.
Identifying and communicating maintenance and repair needs for production equipment to help prevent down-time.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as mechanical assembler or mechanic.
Experience in using manual, semi-automated, or automated tools and machines to assemble and test mechanical components in an industrial production environment. Experience in assembling and testing refrigerant compressors, or similar equipment of equivalent complexity is a definite advantage in this role.
Experience and good working knowledge of mechanics, mechanical components, and mechanical systems.
Good understanding and ability in the proper use and care of precision assembly tools, (ex.: torque wrenches, quality gages, pneumatic tools, etc.),
Good understanding and ability in the proper use and care of precision measurement tools (e.g. micrometers, calipers) to take accurate measurements.
Ability to read technical mechanical assembly drawings, schematics, and production documentation (ex.: Operation Method Sheets, work orders, Job Safety Hazard Analysis).
Good basic math with analytical abilities.
Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items.
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of vocational training or an apprenticeship will be an asset.
Knowledge, training, or experience in Lean manufacturing concepts & principles will be an asset.
