We are currently seeking to hire a Compressor Design Team Leader who will join our Applied Compression Network of Excellence (NoE) and develop advanced concepts and products in the HVAC and Refrigeration sectors. The Design Team Engineering Group leads the development of new Trane and Thermo King Centrifugal, Screw and Scroll Compressors through the design process. In this role, you will lead the engineering team during the design cycle from requirements definition through laboratory testing and analysis to achieve optimum performance, reliability, manufacturability and cost and delivery targets.

This position is eligible for a Hybrid work schedule (3 or more days onsite a week) and will be based out of our Research & Development Laboratory in La Crosse, WI.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for planning and managing the compressor design from marketing requirements to engineering design release using Trane Technologies formal stage gate process.
  • Identifies and requests engineering personnel needed for the project team.
  • Collaborates with unit engineering, controls, heat exchanger, product, manufacturing, and other teams to ensure seamless compressor integration into the unit.
  • Provides project updates and manages communications to leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinates purchasing, machining, inspection, build and test of prototype compressors for lab validation.
  • Transfers the design to the production implementation team and provides support as needed.
  • Overnight travel domestically and abroad (up to one week at a time). Expected travel < 10%.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (or directly-related technical discipline) and at least 3 years of work experience in design engineering or project leadership is required.
  • Compressor, rotating equipment, or air conditioning system experience is preferred.
  • Able to work with a diverse, global team in North America, and potential to partner with Europe, and Asia Pacific regions.
  • Broad understanding of HVAC systems integration of the compressor into the system.
  • Outstanding verbal communication, technical writing, documentation, and presentation skills.
  • Capable of adjusting project priorities based on project risks, design tradeoffs, schedule, project budget, product costs, and product reliability.
  • Able to understand, condense, and organize information necessary for effective team and leadership decisions.

Base Pay Range: $82,500 to $109,000.
