Join our dynamic team at Thermo King as an Electrical Engineer and revolutionize the future of HVAC technology!

 

In this role, you will utilize your expertise in power electronics to develop state-of-the-art electronics, including power conversion hardware, software, and chassis integration solutions. You will collaborate directly with our customers, as well as with field and product development teams, to ensure the delivery of the highest quality and most reliable temperature control solutions. As a Controls and Power Electronics Engineer, you will lead the design of components and systems with a focus on reliability, durability, and performance. This includes defining interface requirements, partnering with implementation teams, and overseeing verification activities. You will be responsible for managing multiple concurrent projects, including the delivery of major global New Product Development programs that meet specific performance, quality, cost, and delivery goals.

Where is the work:
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (3 or more days onsite per week) based out of Minneapolis, MN.

 

What you will do: 

  • Use your knowledge of Model based and embedded code to design and implement software solutions for current and future Thermo King bus controllers.
  • Support multiple power electronic module topologies, and develop DCDC converters, AC-DC-AC power conversion units, and other power electronics devices.
  • Support application of 3rd party power converters on Trane’s HVAC platforms including authoring qualification test plans, DFMEA analysis, tuning parameters for optimal pairing with motors etc.
  • Translate end-product duty cycles into detailed requirements for power electronics devices, and use these to model solutions for thermal management, EMC/EMI compliance, and algorithms for motor control.
  • Use your subject matter expertise to design-in reliability, durability, performance, and safety. Conduct tradeoff analyses of requirements, costs, and schedules.
  • Manage your own project by developing project plans, creating clear prioritization. Develop clear technical requirements in collaboration with product development teams and suppliers, and present materials in formal and informal reviews

 

What you will bring:

  • B.S. or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, and at least 4 years of experience.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Electronics, Controls or Machines is preferred. Relevant experience also considered
  • Key Competencies:
  • Knowledge of multiple power electronic module topologies: DC to DC, Inverters, Power Conversion Units (AC-DC-AC), etc.
  • Embedded controller firmware understanding and the ability to specify and integrate different modules into a functioning system
  • Systems communications. CAN J1939 preferred, experience working with message databases and analysis tools.
  • Application understanding in on-highway and/or off-highway industries desired but not required.
  • Strong proficiency with verbal and written communication skills, analytical problem solving, and creativity

 

Compensation:  

Annual Base Salary: $90,000 – 115,000
