Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Material Handling Engineering Co-op Student to join our team. This co-op position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of material handling engineering, working alongside experienced professionals on real-world projects to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations. This co-op term runs from May through December 2025 (summer plus fall semester) and will be located at our Trane Commercial HVAC Americas chiller manufacturing facility in La Crosse, WI.
Where is the work:
This position has been designated as On-Site.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and reduce operational costs to achieve premiere customer service and overall business objectives.
- Complete assignments related to the design, development, and implementation of material handling systems and equipment, both individually and as part of a team.
- Conduct data analysis and simulations to optimize material flow and storage solutions.
- Support the implementation and testing of new material handling technologies and equipment.
- Handle all details of assigned projects from inception to completion within mutually agreed upon time frames, working under the mentorship of an experienced project manager.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including safety, quality, operations, warehousing, and logistics to identify and address material handling challenges.
- Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, reports, and presentations.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations in all material handling processes.
What you will bring:
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering (industrial systems, manufacturing, mechanical), packaging or supply chain operations (Junior or Senior standing preferred).
- Must exhibit a solid professional image with demonstrated leadership skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a diverse environment with multiple business goals while maintaining internal and external relationships.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required, including strong presentation skills.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to grasp technical engineering specifications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.
- Working knowledge of drafting software (e.g. AutoCAD, Pro/Engineer, Creo, or Solidworks) preferred.
- Self-starter with strong organizational and prioritization skills capable of setting and meeting goals.
- Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and ability to work in a team environment.

Base Pay Range: $
Total compensation for this role will include a commission/incentive plan. Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
