As a Reliability Engineering Co‑Op, you will support the reliability team by helping evaluate and test components used in Trane’s commercial HVAC products. Your primary focus will be developing and documenting accelerated life test plans to ensure components meet required life expectations. You’ll collaborate closely with design engineering to understand real-world use cases, identify failure modes, and support the creation of reliability test plan the subsequent reports.
This role is an excellent opportunity for students interested in reliability, testing, product development, and data-driven engineering work.

Where is the work:
From Monday to Thursday, work onsite with your colleagues. On Fridays, choose your work location, balancing what your work requires
Prioritize engaging with customers. When not directly interacting with customers; collaborate with colleagues in your office.
This position can sit in White Bear Lake, MN or La Crosse, WI
What you will do:
• Work with design engineering teams to document component use cases and real-world application conditions.
• Research and document known or anticipated failure modes using industry sources, historical data, and Trane DFMEAs.
• Assist in developing accelerated life test plans and reliability evaluation strategies for components.
• Support component testing in the laboratory, including test setup, monitoring, and data collection.
• Analyze test results to identify failure mechanisms and assess whether life requirements are met.
• Prepare clear engineering documentation, including test plans, test reports, and reliability summaries.
• Participate in design and test review meetings to share insights and support decision-making.
• Collaborate with reliability, design, and quality engineers on continuous improvement projects.
What you will bring:
• Currently pursuing a Masters or PHD degree in Reliability Engineering.
• Strong interest in reliability engineering, component testing, or product development.
• Basic understanding of engineering principles such as material behavior, failure mechanisms, or mechanical/electrical systems.
• Analytical mindset and willingness to work with engineering data.
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail in documentation.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams.
• Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to learn through hands-on experience.
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
• Exposure to reliability concepts such as FMEA, DVPR, or life testing.
• Experience with basic lab equipment or hands-on testing.
• Familiarity with Weibull, statistics or data analysis tools such as Reliasoft or Relyence.
• Coursework in materials, machine design, or failure analysis.
