The Strategic Segment Leader is responsible for shaping and driving the strategic direction of Trane Technologies’ commercial controls portfolio. This position oversees a team of professionals who support market analysis, requirements, commercialization, and customer‑centric solution development. The position plays a critical role in translating customer insights and market trends into strategic plans, ensuring our controls offerings remain industry‑leading, innovative, and aligned with business growth objectives.
You must possess a blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. You must be able to communicate with all areas of the company. You and your team will work with internal customers in all areas, helping them understand the positioning, key benefits, and customer focus of offerings. You will also serve as the internal and external champion and spokesperson for your offering, especially with the sales channel and key customers to deliver value.
What you will do:
- Direct the work of team members, setting clear objectives, KPIs, and expectations.
- Oversee workload planning, performance management, career development, and succession planning.
- Coach, mentor, and build team capability in strategic marketing, product management, customer research, and presentation skills.
- Create a collaborative, inclusive team environment that encourages innovation and accountability.
- Oversee project execution to meet financial, timeline, and quality targets.
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Service, Engineering, Finance, and Marketing to ensure alignment around business objectives.
- Present insights and recommendations to senior executives, customer groups, and external partners.
Team Responsibilities:
- Maintain an in-depth fact base of market trends, customer needs, emerging technologies, and competitive dynamics across commercial controls.
- Translate customer research into actionable insights that guide investment prioritization, roadmap development, and product positioning.
- Lead creation of multi-year market strategies that support profitable growth and align with enterprise climate and sustainability goals.
- Champion the business case development process, ensuring strong financial justification for new products and enhancements.
- Serve as the primary internal and external champion of the assigned market offering(s), representing the voice of the customer.
- Support commercialization planning, launch execution, and lifecycle management across the assigned market offering(s)
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree (Technical, Scientific, or Engineering) with related experience required.
- 10+ years experience in HVAC, building automation, controls, or product management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage complex initiatives.
- Strong experience developing business cases and strategic plans.
- Skilled in customer research, market analysis, and competitive assessments.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Compensation:
Base Pay Range: $140,000-$218,000+
Additional Compensation: 10-20% incentive
