Where is the work: 

This position has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule with work performed onsite 3 days each week. 

What you will do:   

 

The Strategic R&D Business Development Leader is a pivotal role within Trane Technologies Advanced Technology & Engineering team, responsible for building the vision, strategy, and operational actions needed to secure external grant funding and establish technical research partnerships that align with our organizational goals. This position is focused on advanced technologies and is essential in providing aligned, funded research partnerships that support Trane Technologies' sustainability and new product commitments, ensuring we maintain our industry-leading position.

  • Develop and deliver an effective technology research partnership strategy aligned with Trane Technologies' growth and sustainability goals.
  • Develops, engages and leads a high performing Partnerships team.
  • Create and maintain standard work, processes, and governance structures while leveraging best practices to assess, select, implement, measure, and get alignment/feedback on partnerships.
  • Create and refine a vision that enables effective partnerships with external research organizations, acquire funding to drive research, and support technical roadmaps and technical product advancements for our customers.
  • Apply a deep understanding of customers, product portfolio, growth strategies, and advanced technologies capabilities to identify new and emerging partnerships that help fill gaps and/or expedite advanced technology innovation.
  • Work with the Trane Technologies Legal team to create and maintain Cooperation Agreements, Letters of Intent, Grant Agreements, IP protection, and NDAs for external partnerships.
  • Clearly present strategy, track progress, and communicate the value and ROI of partnerships.

What you will bring: 

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Advanced contract management skills.
  • Advanced relationship management capabilities.
  • Strong procurement process acumen, especially in dealing with government entities.
  • Ability to thrive in a multi-tasking environment and adjust priorities quickly.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work well with teams across regions, functions, and businesses.
  • Proven track record of delivering results.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in business development, R&D, or a related field.
  • Strong institutional awareness and excellent communication skills, both externally and cross-functionally within the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in securing external grant funding and establishing research partnerships.
  • Experience managing risk, including but not limited to IP and liability management.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Knowledge of advanced technologies and sustainability initiatives is a plus.

 

Compensation: 

 Base Pay Range: $142,000 - $189,000 plus. Depending on experience.

Total compensation for this role will include a commission/incentive plan. Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
