Role Summary

As Trane Technologies continues to evolve as a pure-play climate innovator, the Vice President, Advanced Technology will lead the effort to renew and refine our enterprise technology and investment strategy for the company.  Reporting to the Vice President, Engineering and Technology for the company, this thought leader will partner with our strategic business units (SBU’s) to elevate innovation, overseeing the development of cutting-edge technologies, both internally to Trane Technologies as well as through alliances and partnerships with other external constituents.  At Trane Technologies, our corporate Networks of Excellence are teams that develop advanced capabilities and technologies by leading research and development programs, leveraging internal competencies, managing external partnerships, and deploying leading edge technologies in collaboration with our SBU’s.

 

The VP, Advanced Technologies will lead our corporate Networks of Excellence (NoE’s) which include Applied Compression, Electric Systems & Components, Materials & Chemistry, Modeling & Simulation, and Refrigerants.  This role will provide the necessary focus and structure to enable the deployment of capabilities of these NoE resources into our SBU’s.  This critical leader will be a conduit to the business to bring the value of our NoE’s alive through increased collaboration and transparency.

 

Finally, this role will foster a collaborative learning environment while leveraging synergies and maturing compelling sustainable technologies for the company.   He or she will champion improvements in advanced technologies to attain a competitive advantage and to maintain Trane Technologies leadership image in technology while assuring our intellectual property is protected.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement advanced technology strategies aligned with the company’s long-term goals while ensuring security, governance, and IP risk mitigation.
  • Innovation Management and Emerging Technologies: Lead the research and development of new technologies and products, ensuring they meet market demands and company standards.
  • Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing advanced technology team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, inclusion, and continuous learning.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with business unit technical leadership and global cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and integration of technology initiatives and investment strategies.
  • Market Analysis: Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor activities to identify opportunities for innovation.
  • Vendor Management: Evaluate and manage relationships with technology vendors to ensure alignment with business needs and objectives.
  • Business Operating Standards (BOS): Develop and promote operating standards, ensuring successful adoption and adherence to standard technology and PMO processes.  Foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Project Oversight: Oversee multiple advanced development projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Financial Ownership: Manage financial allocations and capital budgets to ensure optimal use of resources and adherence to budget constraints.

 

Qualifications

 

The appropriate candidate needs to be an entrepreneurial leader who can motivate a highly qualified team of subject matter experts to achieve the SBU goals through enterprise strategic initiatives

·       Senior Leadership experience from a company known for innovation and engineering excellence.

·       15+ years of experience in global companies in advanced technology, engineering and product management functions.  Experience working with emerging markets and ideally in companies that derive a portion of revenue from, services, solutions management or contracting.

·       Excellent personal leadership, change management and ability to collaborate and influence cross-functionally—can conduct a dialogue that is intellectually honest, brings out diversity of ideas and creates the appropriate integration/connectivity.

·       Developer of talent and capabilities; great people leader.  Can select and lead both people with deep expertise and people with breadth.

·       Demonstrated ability to represent the Company externally and build alliances.

·       Technical degree, Ph.D. or Masters in Engineering from a leading academic institution, plus business education (MBA preferred); professionally active in societies, professional associations and networks.

·       Visionary thinker with process discipline needed to advance the enterprise technology strategy at Trane Technologies.  Able to work across the business units at all levels to implement new processes and capabilities.

·       Prior experience leading research and development teams for compressors and/or related turbomachinery and the application of advanced modeling technology is desired.

·       Leadership experience to leverage external partners including but not limited to universities, government research entities, other companies and consortia, etc.
