Job Summary:
The Preconstruction Estimating Leader will lead and manage the preconstruction and estimating functions for Energy Services business at Trane Technologies. This role is responsible for overseeing the development process for accurate and competitive cost estimates for projects, ensuring alignment with company objectives, and collaborating with various stakeholders to drive successful project outcomes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction management, estimating, and preconstruction services, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality results.

Where is the work:
This is a Remote position.
- Leadership and Management:
- Coordinate and supervise the work of executive preconstruction estimating members and development staff.
- Co-lead the preconstruction and estimating regional teams, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure high performance and professional growth.
- Develop and implement strategies and standard processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the preconstruction and estimating processes. (example: bidding process, internal cost reference database, etc.…)
- Estimating and Cost Management:
- Oversee and approve the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates for large projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Develop rough order magnitude (ROM) concept estimates using price history data and construction experience.
- Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive estimates.
- Ensure estimates are competitive and align with company objectives and market conditions.
- Produce progress estimates at design milestones (10%, 30% etc..), evaluate material and system costs, review document progress and coordination, build and maintain national subcontractor and vendor relationships.
- Preconstruction Services:
- Collaborate with Regional project teams, clients, architects, and engineers during the preconstruction phase to help develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
- Provide value engineering and cost-saving recommendations to optimize project outcomes.
- Participate in Regional project planning and design meetings to ensure alignment with project goals and client expectations.
- Develop win and fee strategy for large projects.
- Lead development of conceptual estimate/design-build bid submissions and trade buy-out strategy with operations team for key projects.
- Risk Management:
- Identify and assure that potential project risk factors have been evaluated and reviewed with senior management.
- Conducts detailed analysis of contract documents and specifications to determine and validate overall project requirements.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with National clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Communicate effectively with all Regional Teams to ensure clarity and alignment throughout the preconstruction and estimating process.
- Develops strong working relationships based on trust and mutual respect with regions and development teams.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements in construction and estimating.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the preconstruction and estimating functions.
- Experience developing and implementing strategy to advance technology
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field or relevant experience
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating preferred.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop a high-performing team.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore, RSMeans).
- Extensive knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take-off procedures, trade contractor procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
- Strong understanding of contract terms for various delivery models and identifies contract risks and opportunity. (Hard bid/lump sum, guaranteed maximum price (GMP), unit price, design-build, etc…)
Compensation:
Base Pay Range: $150,000 to $195,000
Total compensation for this role will include a commission/incentive plan. Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
