We are currently hiring a Senior Centrifugal Compressor Design Engineer who is a key member of the Advanced Technologies Applied Compression team, which works across the business to understand and develop innovative compression technologies to meet our customers’ needs. In this role, you will solve technology needs through mechanical design, analysis, testing, qualification and manufacturing integration of centrifugal compressors used in HVAC and refrigeration applications.

Where is the work:

Due to the nature of this role, this position has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule with work performed onsite 3 days each week.

 

What you will do:

  • Engage in all phases of new product development, including customer requirements, concept selection, design, prototype manufacturing, testing/ validation, and implementation.
    • Mechanical design of centrifugal compressors from concept selection to detailed drawing, including design of pressure vessels, castings, bearings, lubrication systems, and seals. Specify, select, and apply motors in compressor applications. Performs stress and deflection analysis, rotor dynamics, and vibration analysis.
    • Facilitate design reviews, conduct design FMEAs, develop and execute validation plans consisting of both analysis and laboratory testing. Use analytical development tools to predict performance and optimize compressor design
    • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including technical reports, lab test results, drawings, models, and specifications.
  • Collaborate with product engineering, manufacturing engineering, and operations.  Assure compatibility between design and process capabilities.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams across the business to provide compressor selection recommendations to meet current application needs.  Identify opportunities to create innovative designs to serve future application needs and market opportunities.
  • Maintain awareness of new technology through supplier relationships, participation in technical societies, academic research projects, and conferences.
  • Opportunities to support or lead new technology initiatives at the component, compressor, and full system levels.

 

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in product design and development.
  • Experience with turbomachinery or other rotating equipment is desired.
  • Mechanical design and engineering skills, with practical hands-on hardware experience.
  • Subject matter expertise in one or more aspects of mechanical design.
  • Ability to select proper modeling and simulation tools, understand outputs, and integrate information to make informed engineering choices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – ability to communicate up, down, and across the organization.
  • Knowledge of Heating, Ventilation & Air-Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) fundamentals.
  • Excellent analytical, mathematics, project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership of technical teams.

 

Compensation: 

Base Salary: $95,000 - $140,000
