We are seeking a skillful Technology, Strategy & Partnerships (TSP) Leader for Data Center Applications to join our global Engineering & Technologies Organization. As a part of the Corporate TSP team, you will be responsible for driving the technology roadmap and strategy for HVAC products and services in the Data Center Applications domain. This role requires expertise in data center technologies, HVAC systems and applications, and advanced technologies relevant to the data center industry.

Where is the work:

This is a Remote position.

 

What you will do:

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Possesses in-depth knowledge of data center technologies, HVAC systems, and industry advancements and actively stays informed of leading-edge innovations.
    • Drives the development of the technology roadmap and strategy for Data Center Applications with a focus on the 3–10-year horizon.
    • Identifies opportunities for cross-business unit coordination and alignment to maximize impact.
  • Innovation Mindset:
    • Resolves complex problems through an innovative and forward-thinking approach to problem-solving and application development.
    • Proactively seeks out opportunities to introduce new technologies and solutions for product and service innovation.
    • Manages intellectual property (IP) and minimizes risks to Trane Technologies.
    • Develops strategic external partnerships, proposals, and funding aligned with the company's goals.
  • Partnership Development:
    • Develops and manages strategic partnerships and collaborations with technology providers, research organizations, and industry influencers.
    • Identifies valuable partnerships that enhance product offerings and drive innovation.
    • Builds relationships with technical and program leaders in government entities, national labs, universities, and industry partners to secure external funding.
  • Project Management:
    • Utilizes strong project management skills to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and deliver projects within deadlines.
    • Efficiently manages multiple initiatives and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment.
    • Influences technical direction internally and externally, collaborating with partners, relationships, committees, and working groups.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
    • Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and customers to gather requirements and ensure alignment.
    • Proactively scouts for external funding opportunities in collaboration with other Advanced Technology teams.
    • Works with internal and external partners to execute long-term externally funded R&D projects.
  • Technology Evaluation:
    • Leads the evaluation of new and innovative technologies for potential commercial value.
    • Identifies disruptive competitors or prospective new products and services for the company.

 

What you will bring:

  • Recognized technical expert in Data Center Applications, with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering (advanced degree preferred).
  • 15 years + of experience in heating and cooling application development
  • Previous experience conducting market research to understand evolving customer requirements.
  • Proven ability to influence, lead, and successfully develop technical strategies and technology roadmaps in a cross-functional matrix environment.
  • Experience in research and IP management.  A track record of patents, publications, and partnerships preferred.  Governmental research grant process experience a plus.
  • Proficient in program and project management, collaborating across internal and external functional organizations.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10-15% of the time.

 

Compensation: 

Additional Compensation: Total compensation for this role also will include an incentive plan.
