Where is the work:
This position has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule with work performed on-site in our Trane La Crosse campus 3 days each week.
As the Engineering Project Team Lead, you are responsible for all aspects of equipment design for chillers and heat pumps to support the North American product portfolio. You will collaborate with a cross functional team of engineers to create innovative designs that will reduce the energy intensity of our customers’ cooling systems and decarbonize their heating applications with high efficiency chillers and heat pumps. You will guide the team to solve problems through a stage-gate development process. This includes, but not limited to, design creation/documentation, change management during development, design for manufacturability, product cost, product performance, reliability, all while maintaining the project schedule.
- Oversee the design and release of chiller and heat pump equipment designs and sub-systems from concept generation through the release of design deliverables. This includes heat exchangers, compressors, controls, electrical design, general assembly, and any other required subsystems.
- Collaborate with Product Management, the sales channel, and the end customer to interpret the unmet need into viable technical solutions.
- Team with product management, manufacturing, quality, procurement, and project management to develop requirements and track compliance to the agreed upon requirements including cost, quality, and delivery.
- Ensure the proper engineering specifications and requirements are applied to drive the selection, and qualification of all purchased components/assemblies or internally supplied components.
- Lead concept design reviews, technical design reviews, detailed model reviews, and drawing reviews for components, sub-systems, and the overall chiller/heat pump system.
- Collaborate with the cross functional engineering team to create and modify DFMEA and DVP&R to ensure product quality and reliability.
- Partner with the manufacturing project leader and the manufacturing engineering team to incorporate design for manufacturing and design for assembly (DFM/DFA) principles into the product design.
- Develop and deliver technical progress reports to leadership team.
- Travel domestically 5-10% of the time to interact with colleagues working on chiller and heat pump products, typically between Trane chiller manufacturing or lab facilities.
What we expect of you:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (or related technical discipline) is required.
- At least 7-years of work experience in product design/development or project management is required.
Ideally, you will also be familiar with one or more of the following:
- Able to function as the lead engineer by acting to ensure due diligence is applied throughout the design process through coaching, mentoring and oversight of the design team.
- General knowledge of one or more manufacturing processes to enable the coaching and mentoring of the design team.
- Experience using PLM and CAD systems (preferably Creo).
- Schedule development and resource planning.
- Design or application experience with commercial building HVAC products.
Compensation Range:
Annual Compensation Range is $75,000 to $143,000 annually. Disclaimer: This salary range is based on US national averages. Actual pay could be a result of seniority/experience level, merit and geographic location where the actual work is performed.
